Fabrizio Sannicandro PEOPLE curated by Antonello Tolve

opening | Saturday 4 July at 7.30 pm – duration | 4 July – 4 August 2026

The Kyro Art Gallery is delighted to announce People, Fabrizio Sannicandro’s first solo exhibition at the gallery, which will open on Saturday 4 July at 7.30 pm with a selection of works where painting becomes a space for reflection and memory.

In the scenario offered by Fabrizio Sannicandro, memory is always a chromatic note, a versatile pigment, or even a patina that settles persistently on the surface to reveal figures – faces, bodies, shadows – that prompt us to rethink the surrounding area, transforming it into an open space, a boundless measure of the world.

Deeply embedded in an iconographic framework that reinterprets certain artistic traditions, at times associated with a historical Symbolism and at others to the broad realms of Metaphysical Art (in particular that of Giorgio Morandi), Sannicandro creates light and ethereal scenes where the body seems almost suspended, caught unawares, rendered with an elusive and poetic narrative, at times linked to the suggestion of a landscape or domestic interior of which all coordinates or references have be lost.

The artist is constantly seeking the eternal in the everyday, making matter vibrate from within and playing with simple forms or soft colours (with a natural powdery texture). In these new works created especially for this solo exhibition, he invites us to reflect on a world continually filled with memory and evocations that seem to almost undo the passage of time, endowing the brushstroke with an edgy emotional charge that is capable of reawakening dormant sentiments.

“In my works, objects, people or animals are not depicted in their normal and natural surroundings; there are no recognisable figures as such, yet they reveal absolute values without evoking the spectator’s everyday environment. In other words, they do not depict anything distinguishable in terms of setting or context, but express inner visions, revealing the spiritual essence of life. They are a collection of moments, figures suspended in time, portrayed in an abstract daily life. They are gestures frozen and designed for a time outside time, where shapes reveal themselves to the observer like apparitions and the colours help emphasise the sublime character of the mood” (Sannicandro).
