Image, in the Space, a collective exhibition to be inaugurated on 7 December at 6 p.m. with works by Ilaria Gasparroni, Giuseppe Inglese and Fabrizio Sannicandro, in which the iconographic recognisability blends into the two fundamental polarities of experience: the ‘I’ and the ‘World’.

Image, in the Space is a visual atmosphere that places the various phenomenological levels of perceptual, intuitive and imaginative experience under a magnifying glass, with the aim of superimposing or intertwining them with the subtle thread of a modus – and habitus – that does not deny reality but rather invests it (in some cases sabotages it, distorts it) with a precious poetic echo.

Linked to the directness of a realism grasped and shifted onto the symbolic plane, the artists keep alive the grande figurative vocabulary (inaugurated by de Chirico and carried forward on the wings of New Objectivity, Neue Sachlichkeit, with particular reference to the exhibition curated by Gustav Friedrich Hartlaub in 1925), reducing it to a dreamlike scenario, to the point of transforming it into a Real-maravilloso – the definition from Alejo Carpentier – where anthropomorphic representation becomes something elusive and impenetrable, mysterious and indefinable, evocative or even alienating and subtly dreamlike.

Drained, stripped of everyday trappings and gradually transformed into an ideal space for thought, as well as a dimension of colour, trace, line and fine filament of a pictorial or sculptural language. Reality in the works of Ilaria Gasparroni, Giuseppe Inglese and Fabrizio Sannicandro is a labyrinth of allusions, a playful rewriting and recalibration where the single element that unites their research is the importance given to the evocative vision of the thing represented.

With each following in their unique path the vast iconospheric artery that feeds one of the majestic currents of contemporary thought, the three artists are brought together within the reflective perimeter of Image, in the Space (from different latitudes and with different forms of expression) through the richness of reality understood as an ideal place, a magical space, a means of expression whose extension radiates so as to penetrate the defensive wall of the icon, its recognisability and its reference to reality, allowing pleasant escape routes towards unexpected desirability or towards unprecedented and vibrant (even fluid) conclusions.

Walking #5. Image, in the Space
Ilaria Gasparroni, Giuseppe Inglese, Fabrizio Sannicandro<br
